HELP US HELP YOU!!!

There are two primary ways to support the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department. Financial contributions are always appreciated and make a large impact on our ability to serve our community. A second way to help is to join us as a member. We are always seeking motivated individuals to serve as firefighters, EMT's or scene support personnel.

Membership

Have you ever considered volunteering as a firefighter, EMT or in a scene support capacity? We offer an excellent opportunity for the right person.

Membership has many rewards but we want you to know up front that membership requires a large commitment. It requires a significant amount of training, and hard work. Fire and rescue calls occur at inconvenient times and may sometimes place you in extreme conditions that may include hazardous duty.

If you are willing to make the commitment in us, we are willing to make the commitment in you!!!
In return for your services you will receive the equipment and training you need to launch your new career. You will find that the personal satisfaction you feel from the work that we do unmatched by any other profession. If you think you could benefit from the training and if you would get personal satisfaction by serving your community; this might be a great opportunity for you.
If you have got the "stuff" we could certainly use your help!!!

The process to become a probationary member includes filing an application, a background check, completing a medical examination, and meeting with the membership committee. If accepted at this point you will begin a six month probationary period where you will be issued appropriate protective gear, ID card, a pager, orientation, and you will actually begin training and responding to calls. You will observe and perform duties limited to the extent that you have been trained. Upon completion of the 6 month probationary period your application will be voted on by the full membership to determine if you will be retained as a member of the department. You will be required to become certified as either a firefighter-1, EMT, or a scene support specialist when a course is offered usually within your first year of membership.

If you are interested in learning more you can email us, visit us at the fire station, call (518) 891-2333, or speak to any member.
